The October 7th pogrom in Israel as well as much of the world’s response in its aftermath have shocked into the core of many Jews who felt at least assimilated within their western societies. Parades of protestors chanting and laughing, University professors feeling that it was exhilarating, the deafening silence of a majority well known human rights organizations, and all this was not long after the October 7th pogrom. What came later was the burning of synagogues and Jewish Centers in Armenia, Tunisia, and Dagestan while the latter searched for Jews to kill at their airports in their own pogrom. Magen David stars painted onto buildings in France. College encampments supporting HAMAS and Jihad and the acts of blocking off Jewish students from going to their universities by the student mobs.
These are just a few examples.
How does China fit into this and would there ever be oncoming pogroms in China?
China-The stages
Philosemitism- the Chinese idea of admiring Jews for their wealth while at the same time suppressing the 1000 year old ancient Kaifeng Jewish minority. In short, a false admiration that had morph into violent cheerleading amongst its citizens along with heightened anti-Israel propaganda from its news outlets and state sponsored personalities since the October 7th pogrom.
Antisemitism in China post October 7th PogromCalls for Violence- Type in “Jew” in Chinese in the popular Chinese social media weibo, the results will churn in a lot of anti-Jewish sentiment. The Jews of Kaifeng, China are also not spared from the vitriol. It is worth noting that sentiments go along with the official communist party line as this type of hate speech is not just ignored but rather encouraged.
Alliances- Allying itself with regimes like Iran, Russia, North Korea, etc.
These alliances will provide the backbone mechanism of pogroms against Jews and Israelis. The Chinese have been directly involved in helping HAMAS according to Newsweek and other alerts in social media.
The Chinese are merely laying the groundwork for future violence and pogroms against Israelis and Jews.
Pogroms in China- Scenarios
If a beginning of a violent pogrom against the Jews took place in China, then Jews of closer proximity to the Chinese would be targeted first and then next would be the Jews who are considered foreign like expats from other lands who came to live and work in China. What is meant by closer proximity? It is meant to mean Jews who they will first view as targets would be the Jews who are Chinese citizens, mainly the Jews of Kaifeng. Why would they be targeted first rather than the foreign Jews? In order to make the public comfortable enough to cheerlead in the end an ethnic cleansing. In order to test the waters, they would have to strike at what’s familiar to them and then go after Jews from other places.
Would the Jews be identified first in a discriminatory identification before a pogrom in China? These days, the possibilities are close to becoming realities. By discriminatory identification, would the Chinese government be blatant enough to show this identification marked on the Jewish person for every citizen to see? The answer is yes. Yes, they would. Dehumanizing is key.
For years, many have sounded the alarm of the ancient Chinese Jewish community of Kaifeng disappearing for good amid government crackdowns. These days with increasing violent rhetoric against the Jews in China, the alarm should ring louder and clearer of the possible approaching violence against not only the Jews of Kaifeng but also the rest of the Jewish communities of China as well as the rest of the world due to the alliances China has forged.
